What the journey looks like
- Paro to Thimphu, then Punakha via Dochu La.
- Punakha to Phobjikha through Wangdue district.
- Phobjikha to Paro is a substantial road day; keep the evening free.
What you will need to leave out
- Remove Phobjikha from trips under eight days rather than turning it into a rushed day trip.
- Do not add Trongsa and Bumthang unless the trip expands to Central Bhutan length.
- Do not plan an international departure immediately after the long return west.
Arrival and departure days are shorter than they look
Landing after lunch and flying out in the morning does not give you two sightseeing days. Check the real flight or border times first. If a missed connection would be costly, spend the final night in Paro.
