Confirm the current permit process with Bhutan’s official visitor or immigration source, especially when travelling with children, using a land entry or changing the entry point. ## Prepare each traveller separately - Check the identity document and spelling for every adult and child. - Record the child’s age on the travel dates for the applicable SDF category. - Match names and dates on permits, tickets, hotels and guide records. - Keep digital and offline copies of the permit, payment receipt and passport or voter document. - Allow processing time before non-refundable transport. ## Entry point and border timing A permit record does not make a late border arrival practical. Check the selected entry point, current hours, road transfer and where the group sleeps after immigration. If a train or flight is delayed, use the planned overnight rather than forcing a late mountain drive. ## Permit is not the whole travel plan The permit is separate from the SDF, guide, vehicle, hotel, meals, monument access and insurance. A certified guide remains part of Bhutan travel planning even when the entry application is handled directly. ## Accepted identity documents: The strict Passport vs Voter ID rule A common, critical error made by Indian travelers arriving at the border is presenting an Aadhar card, PAN card, or state driving license. Under Bhutanese immigration law, these documents are completely invalid for entering the country. Border immigration officers at Phuentsholing and Paro Airport will strictly deny entry to any traveler lacking approved credentials. Indian citizens must present one of two documents: 1) An original valid Indian Passport with at least six months remaining validity; OR 2) An original physical Voter Identity Card (EPIC) issued by the Election Commission of India. Children under 18 who do not possess a voter card must travel with an original passport or an official English birth certificate accompanied by a parent holding valid documents. - Valid documents: Original Indian Passport (6+ months validity) OR Original Election Commission Voter ID. - Strictly prohibited: Aadhar Card, PAN Card, Driving License, Ration Card, and company ID cards. - Minors under 18: Must present valid passport or original government birth certificate in English. - Carry multiple physical photocopies and passport-sized photographs for checkpost permits. ## Application pathways: Online pre-clearance vs on-arrival permits Indian travelers have two ways to obtain their Entry Permit: online pre-clearance or permit on arrival.
