The current entry rule
Bhutan's Department of Tourism withdrew the mandatory travel-insurance requirement in April 2024. A visitor is not currently required to upload insurance evidence simply to process a standard tourist visa.
A trek operator, specialist activity provider or insurer may still impose its own conditions. That is different from a national entry requirement and should be confirmed for the booked activity.
Coverage still worth buying
- Overseas medical treatment and hospital costs.
- Emergency evacuation by road or air when medically authorised.
- Trip cancellation, curtailment and missed connections.
- Trekking at the route's maximum sleeping altitude.
- Pre-existing conditions disclosed and accepted in writing.
- Weather, road disruption and separate-ticket exclusions.
What to carry
