Why the viewpoint is worth the effort
Kala Patthar provides the close Everest, Nuptse, Pumori and Khumbu Glacier panorama that many trekkers expect but do not get directly from Base Camp. The climb begins above 5,000 m, so the visual reward never removes the need for a conservative decision.
- Start before dawn only with suitable health, weather and lighting.
- Carry water, insulation, headlamp and sun protection; there are no facilities on the viewpoint.
- Turn around if symptoms, ice or visibility make the climb unsafe.
How it fits the itinerary
On the standard plan, Base Camp is visited on Day 9 and Kala Patthar is optional on Day 10 before descending toward Pheriche. It is a viewpoint excursion, not an overnight destination.
