## Daypack essentials vs porter duffel allocation

Organizing your gear effectively between your porter duffel and personal daypack makes your Langtang trek smooth and safe. Your porter duffel (max 10–12 kg per trekker, respecting ethical 20–25 kg load limits) holds your sleeping bag, extra evening clothes, heavy thermal layers, and spare toiletries.

Your 28–35 liter daypack should contain items you may need while walking: waterproof hard shell jacket, rain pants, warm gloves, headlamp, 2 liters of drinking water, snacks, sunscreen, personal medications, passport, permit receipts, and cash. Never send essential daily medicines or waterproof layers in your porter's bag.

- Keep daypack weight under 5–6 kg containing all immediate trail necessities.

- Ensure porter duffel weight respects ethical 10–12 kg limits per person.

- Use internal dry bags or heavy plastic liners to keep duffel clothing bone-dry.

- Carry your passport, Langtang National Park permit, and cash in a waterproof neck wallet.

## Alpine weather protection and emergency insulation

Weather in the Langtang Valley changes rapidly: sunny mornings in the river gorge can turn into afternoon mist, rain, or high-valley snow above Langtang Village (3,430m). A technical 3-layer clothing system—merino baselayer, breathable fleece or softshell midlayer, and seam-taped waterproof shell—keeps you comfortable through all conditions.

For evenings at Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m), where indoor lodge temperatures hover near freezing, pack a heavyweight down jacket, thermal beanie, warm fleece gloves, and insulated camp socks. If planning to climb Tserko Ri (4,984m), windproof mittens, UV-400 sunglasses, and slip-on microspikes are essential.

- Bring a down jacket with at least 650–800 fill power for freezing Kyanjin evenings.

- Pack a seam-sealed waterproof jacket and rain pants for afternoon showers.

- Include a warm wool beanie, buff/neck gaiter, and wind-blocking gloves.

- Carry microspikes and trekking poles if planning the Tserko Ri or Kyanjin Ri summit hikes.
