October and November usually provide the most reliable post-monsoon conditions; March to May is the main spring window. Winter may bring deep cold, snow and lodge closure near Larkya La. June–August brings monsoon rain, landslides, cloud and difficult road access.

Spring: March to May

March starts colder with possible old snow on the pass. April often balances moderate temperatures and mountain visibility. May is warmer and greener but afternoon cloud and pre-monsoon showers increase later in the month.

Autumn: September to November

September transitions out of monsoon and can retain muddy roads and cloud. October is popular for clearer weather and stable demand. November becomes colder but often remains clear; water and lodge systems may begin freezing higher up.

Winter: December to February

Expect severe night cold, snow accumulation, reduced lodge availability and possible pass closure. A winter circuit is not simply a quieter autumn trek; it needs current local confirmation, flexible dates and stronger equipment.

Monsoon: June to August

Rain affects lower trails and approach roads, while cloud obscures views and landslides can interrupt transport. Larkya La conditions remain variable at altitude. Most first-time trekkers should choose another period.

Useful answers

Frequently asked questions

Is October too crowded?

It is the busiest period and lodge capacity is limited, so organised room planning matters.

Is April better than May?

April is often drier and cooler; May is warmer with more pre-monsoon cloud and shower risk.

Can Larkya La close?

Yes. Heavy snow, avalanche exposure or unsafe trail conditions can make crossing impractical in any season.
