Samagaun Acclimatisation Day covers 4–14 km by option in about 3–8 hr. The route changes from Sleep 3,530 m; accumulated climbing and descending make the stage more demanding than the net altitude difference suggests.

Distance, ascent and descent

Plan 4–14 km by option, approximately +150 to ~+1,250 m of accumulated ascent and Return the same of descent. These are route-planning estimates; GPS smoothing, lodge location and temporary diversions change recorded totals.

Settlement sequence

Samagaun → Birendra Lake / Pung Gyen Gompa / Manaslu Base Camp approach → Samagaun

Bridges and trail conditions

Birendra Lake is the gentlest option; Pung Gyen requires a longer valley excursion; the Base Camp route adds steep moraine and can reach about 4,800 m. Snow, cloud and uneven glacial terrain increase with height.

Water and lunch points

Eat breakfast at the lodge and carry treated water, snacks and a packed lunch for longer options. Do not assume food or toilets beyond Samagaun.

Toilets and hygiene

Use the lodge before departure. Side-trip routes have no formal public facilities; pack out paper and hygiene waste and stay away from water sources.

Mobile network and Wi-Fi

Signal is unreliable outside the village. The group must stay together, carry offline mapping and agree on turnaround time before splitting between options.

Common pacing mistake

Making Base Camp compulsory. A long, exhausting climb can reduce recovery before Samdo; the best option is the one that permits a symptom-free return, food and rest.

Arrival facilities

Return to the same room in Samagaun. Use the afternoon to dry gear, charge essential devices, review symptoms and order an early dinner.
