Browse the full Manaslu Circuit library →Samdo to Dharamsala covers 6–8 km in about 4–5 hr. The route changes from 3,860→~4,460 m; accumulated climbing and descending make the stage more demanding than the net altitude difference suggests.
Distance, ascent and descent
Plan 6–8 km, approximately ~+650 m of accumulated ascent and ~−50 m of descent. These are route-planning estimates; GPS smoothing, lodge location and temporary diversions change recorded totals.
Settlement sequence
Samdo → Budhi Gandaki bridge → Larkya Bazaar area → Dharamsala
Bridges and trail conditions
After a brief descent and bridge crossing, the route traverses barren slopes and moraine with very little shelter. Fresh snow can obscure the normal line and wind chill becomes serious.
Water and lunch points
Leave Samdo with enough treated water for the stage. Dharamsala water and kitchen service can be limited or frozen; carry reserve snacks rather than depending on a full lunch menu.
Toilets and hygiene
The high-camp toilet is extremely basic and may be frozen or congested. There are no dependable facilities on the approach after Samdo.
Mobile network and Wi-Fi
Assume no mobile or internet connection. Forecast, insurer information and emergency contacts must be obtained or stored before leaving Samdo.
Common pacing mistake
Underestimating the 600 m sleeping gain because the distance is short. Arrive slowly, rest immediately and do not continue upward with worsening symptoms.
Arrival facilities
Dharamsala has very limited seasonal beds, food, water and charging. The guide should reconfirm operation and space before departure from Samdo and brief the group for the pass.
