What is the best first expedition in Nepal?

There is no universal first expedition. The right progression depends on technical skills, prior altitude, expedition experience and route hazards.

How long does a Nepal expedition take?

Major expeditions commonly take four to nine weeks, including approach, acclimatisation, camp establishment, summit waiting days and descent.

Are permit fees included?

Sometimes. Request an itemised quote naming permits, government services, conservation fees, waste deposits and team-size conditions.

Is a summit guaranteed?

No. Weather, route condition, health, acclimatisation and team safety decide whether an attempt proceeds.

What is the current Everest climbing royalty?

The Department of Tourism fee page says the foreign-climber royalty effective 1 September 2025 is USD 15,000 for the Everest normal route in spring, with different rates for other routes and seasons. Verify the current table before payment.

Why do expedition itineraries include so many rest days?

Rest days support acclimatisation, illness management, equipment repair, route work and weather waiting. Removing them may convert a flexible plan into a deadline-driven one at exactly the point conservative decisions matter most.

What should an expedition cost comparison include?

Compare the named leader and staff ratio, permits, staff insurance, freight, base-camp and high-camp services, fixed-line charges, oxygen allocation, weather and communications, waste deposit, rescue assumptions, summit bonuses, tips and contingency nights.

Do all 8,000 m expeditions use supplemental oxygen?

No, but the choice changes pace, staffing, equipment, backup and rescue assumptions. If oxygen is part of the plan, the proposal should state cylinders, flow strategy, masks, regulators, caches and backup responsibility.
