Planning decision
Manang is an acclimatization base and a high Himalayan settlement, not merely a night on the Annapurna Circuit. Most trekkers benefit from two nights, with a short active day around the village, Gangapurna Lake or a chosen viewpoint before moving toward Yak Kharka and Thorong La.

## Why sleep in Manang

Manang gives the body time to adapt before the circuit rises toward Yak Kharka, Thorong Phedi and Thorong La. The village also has its own dry landscape, old houses, bakeries, monasteries and short walking options; rushing through it turns a useful high stop into a risky altitude jump.

- Use an active acclimatization day, not a hard summit attempt.

- Walk toward Gangapurna Lake or a nearby viewpoint only if symptoms and weather allow.

- Keep Braga/Braka and the surrounding valley as a separate cultural option.

## Manang decision table

Swipe to view table →

| Stay | Useful for | Do not assume |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 1 night | Compressed road-supported circuit | That the body has adapted |
| 2 nights | Most first-time high-route plans | That every hike is appropriate |
| 3 nights | Slow acclimatization, weather or Tilicho extension | That extra nights remove all altitude risk |

## How to reach and where the road changes the experience

Most visitors reach Manang through the Marsyangdi corridor by road or on foot from the lower circuit. A jeep can shorten the lower approach, but road conditions, dust, landslides, traffic and motion fatigue still shape the day. Ask exactly where a vehicle stops and which stages remain on foot.

- Do not arrive from low altitude and immediately plan a high push.

- Keep a buffer before the Thorong La crossing and any flight from Jomsom.

- Carry cash, medication, power backup and warm layers; services are more limited than in Pokhara.

## Food, network and medical limits

Lodges serve dal bhat, noodles, soups, bakery items and simple hot drinks, with supply and menu depth changing by season. Electricity, charging, Wi-Fi and mobile coverage are not city-level utilities. A health post or local medical service is not a substitute for a full hospital; persistent or worsening altitude symptoms require immediate advice and descent planning.
**Planning note**
Altitude, road access, lodge operation, network and weather conditions change. Confirm the current route and acclimatization plan with a qualified guide before departure.

## Onward to Thorong La or Tilicho

From Manang, the route can continue through Yak Kharka and Thorong Phedi toward Thorong La, or branch toward Tilicho Lake with its own days and exposure. Do not add Tilicho after arriving exhausted or use a fixed schedule to override symptoms. The guide's turnaround and descent decision takes priority.

Useful answers

## Frequently asked questions

How many nights should I spend in Manang?+
Two nights is a useful starting point for acclimatization on many Annapurna Circuit plans; a third night can help when the group is slower, weather is poor or Tilicho is included.
What altitude is Manang?+
The village is commonly described at around 3,540 m, but use the exact overnight and route source in the departure plan rather than relying on one rounded figure.
Can I drive to Manang?+
Road access reaches the Manang area, but the exact endpoint, surface and seasonal operation change. A road arrival still requires altitude planning.
What should I do if I feel sick in Manang?+
Tell the guide immediately, stop ascending and follow the medical/descent plan. Worsening symptoms, confusion, breathlessness at rest or poor coordination are urgent concerns.
Is Tilicho Lake a day trip from Manang?+
No standard answer fits every route. It normally needs a separate extension with its own walking, altitude and accommodation plan.
