# Nepal 4-Day Itinerary: Kathmandu and Pokhara Without the Rush

Four days can connect Kathmandu and Pokhara, but only as a taste: give Kathmandu one useful heritage day, make the transfer deliberate, and reserve one complete Pokhara block. Use flights when the value of time justifies the weather risk, and protect the international departure in Kathmandu.

**Field advice**

For an important international flight, make the fourth night a fifth day in Kathmandu. A same-day Pokhara connection is a risk choice, not the default.

## What the two bases are each for

Kathmandu owns the arrival, heritage and practical preparation. Pokhara owns the slower lake day, a clear-weather viewpoint and a short activity. The route feels credible when each base has one job; it becomes brittle when every day carries several attractions and a transfer.

- Choose Sarangkot only when visibility and road timing make the early start worthwhile.

- Keep Phewa Lake, the International Mountain Museum or a neighbourhood walk as lower-pressure alternatives.

- Do not add Chitwan, Lumbini or a major trek to the same four-day frame.

## Choose the connection by consequence

Domestic flights save road time but may be changed by weather and operating conditions. Tourist buses give a ground option but can consume most of a day. Compare the full cost of a late arrival, missed activity or extra night—not just the ticket price.

- Ask who rebooks a delayed flight or arranges ground transport.

- Carry medication, documents and valuables with you.

- Keep the final Kathmandu connection separate from a must-not-miss international departure.

## Who should choose four days

Choose this route for a short-break traveller who wants two recognisable Nepal bases and accepts that both will be sampled rather than fully explored. Choose three days for Kathmandu depth, or five to seven days when Pokhara, Chitwan or a short trek matters enough to deserve room.

Yes as a first taste, especially when the route uses a flight and keeps the sightseeing focused. It will not feel like a slow visit to either place.
Should I fly or drive to Pokhara?+
Fly when preserving a short holiday matters and you have a weather fallback. Drive when the ground journey fits your budget and you can accept a longer transfer day.
Can I see the Annapurna range from Pokhara?+
You may have clear views, but cloud, haze and season decide visibility. Keep a lake or museum alternative rather than treating a viewpoint as guaranteed.
Can I add Chitwan in four days?+
Not without reducing Kathmandu or Pokhara to a transfer. Use the six- or seven-day routes for a more credible three-region plan.
