# Nepal 5-Day Itinerary: A Focused Kathmandu and Pokhara Route

Five days works best as Kathmandu Valley plus Pokhara. It is enough for heritage, lake time and a mountain viewpoint when the route stays focused; it is not enough to add Chitwan or a major trek without turning the holiday into a transfer schedule.

## What this itinerary is for

This is a good fit for a first visit with limited leave, a family group, or travellers who want culture and mountain context without a demanding trek. Kathmandu owns the heritage and practical preparation; Pokhara owns the slower lake, viewpoint and short-activity day.

- Give Kathmandu one complete day rather than trying to visit every square.

- Treat Sarangkot as a visibility-dependent option, not the reason the whole route succeeds.

- Keep one Pokhara activity movable when the transfer arrives late or clouds cover the range.

## Choose the transfer by consequence

A domestic flight can preserve the short holiday but may be delayed by weather or schedule changes. A tourist bus gives a ground option but can consume much of a day because the road distance is not the same as the map distance. Choose the mode that leaves the group with a workable fallback.

- Keep medication, documents and valuables with you during a domestic flight or road day.

- Do not connect a domestic arrival directly to an important international departure.

- Ask who rebooks the ticket or arranges an extra night when a flight moves.

## What to leave out

Do not add Chitwan, Everest Base Camp or the Annapurna Circuit because the places look close on a map. If wildlife or trekking is the main purpose, open a longer or route-specific itinerary instead of making this five-day page carry an impossible promise.

Can I visit Nepal in five days?+
Yes, if you focus on Kathmandu Valley and Pokhara. The route becomes less resilient when Chitwan, a major trek or several distant day trips are added.
Can I add Chitwan to five days?+
Only by reducing Kathmandu or Pokhara and accepting a faster trip. Seven or more days gives the three-base route a more credible shape.
Can I trek Everest in five days?+
No. A standard Everest Base Camp trek needs continuous walking, acclimatization and return logistics. Five days is better used for city, lake and viewpoint travel.
Is it better to fly or drive to Pokhara?+
Flying saves road time but is weather-sensitive. Driving takes longer but can be a useful ground option. Compare the full connection, delay plan and budget rather than the ticket alone.
Where should I keep the last night?+
Keep it in Kathmandu when an international flight matters. A same-day Pokhara-to-international connection leaves little room for a delayed domestic flight or road transfer.
