# Nepal 7-Day Itinerary: A Fast Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan Triangle

Seven days can connect Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan, but it is a fast triangle rather than a slow holiday. Use flights or accept long road days, keep two-night bases where possible, and choose whether heritage, mountain views or wildlife gets the deepest time before booking.

**Field advice**

The route is viable as a highlights sampler, not as three full destination experiences. Reduce a stop before sacrificing the final connection.

## Choose what gets the best day

The triangle only works when the group chooses a priority. Heritage-led travellers can keep Kathmandu deeper and make Chitwan shorter; wildlife-led travellers should protect two nights in Chitwan; mountain-view travellers should keep Pokhara flexible rather than stacking every attraction.

- Use two-night bases to reduce packing and check-in time.

- Treat safari sightings, clear mountain views and weather-sensitive activities as opportunities, not guarantees.

- Keep a lower-pressure activity at each base for a delayed connection, rain or fatigue.

## Flight versus road is a route decision

Flights reduce the long road stages but remain sensitive to weather, airport operations and rebooking. Tourist buses avoid airport procedures but can take much longer than the straight-line map suggests. Price the complete connection, including an extra night or missed activity, before fixing the hotel sequence.

- Ask who handles a delayed domestic flight and whether the operator has a road fallback.

- Carry snacks and motion-sickness supplies for road transfers.

- Do not place a long Chitwan-to-Kathmandu return on the same day as an important international flight without a real buffer.

## When seven days should become two bases

Choose Kathmandu plus Pokhara instead when the group values slower meals, heritage depth, a short walk or weather flexibility. Choose a dedicated trek instead when walking—not collecting three destination names—is the purpose. Seven days is enough to sample Nepal; it is not a reason to force every region into one plan.

Is seven days enough for Nepal?+
It is enough for a quick highlights tour through Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan, or a slower two-base visit. It is not enough for a full high-altitude trek plus the full triangle.
Should I fly or take the tourist bus?+
Choose by budget, comfort, weather tolerance and the cost of a late arrival. Flights save time but need a rebooking plan; buses avoid airport dependency but can consume much of the day.
Is Chitwan worth adding for only two nights?+
It can be, especially when wildlife is a priority, but the stay should include enough time for more than a transfer and one short activity. Otherwise use those nights in Kathmandu or Pokhara.
Can I add a short trek to this route?+
Only by removing another base and using a route-specific walking plan. A trek needs its own roadhead, permits, guide arrangement, pacing and recovery time.
Where should I sleep before an international flight?+
Kathmandu is the safer final base. Protect the night before departure rather than relying on a same-day return from Chitwan or Pokhara.
