# Nepal 8-Day Itinerary: Classic Highlights with a Short Foothill Walk

Eight days can hold Kathmandu, Chitwan, Pokhara and a short foothill walk, but only if the walk stays low-altitude and the route does not pretend to be a high trek. Use the extra day for two-night bases and a flexible activity, not another distant destination.

## Use the eighth day for resilience

The value of eight days is not a fourth destination. It is the ability to keep two-night bases, move a viewpoint when cloud arrives, and take a short lower-altitude walk without pretending it is a replacement for a trek. If the group dislikes early starts or long transfers, use the walking day as a slower Pokhara day.

- Choose the walk by current roadhead, fitness, weather and guide advice.

- Keep a lake, museum or café block as the fallback.

- Do not place a critical international departure immediately after the Pokhara return.

## The route is still transfer-led

Kathmandu–Chitwan–Pokhara is a meaningful loop, but roads, traffic, weather and flights can change the usable day. Book the overnight sequence first, then the activities. A short walk is the first thing to remove when a transfer shifts—not the final Kathmandu buffer.

- Ask for the actual vehicle and transfer plan, not only a destination list.

- Use two-night bases to reduce check-in and luggage movement.

- Treat wildlife, mountain views and activity operations as conditional.

## When to choose nine or ten days instead

Choose nine days when you want the triangle to breathe without the foothill walk. Choose ten days when the short trek is the reason for the trip and needs more than a single active day. Choose eight when sampling the three regions matters more than deep walking time.

Is the foothill walk a real trek?+
It is a short, lower-altitude walking addition, not a standard Everest, Annapurna Base Camp or multi-day high-altitude trek. Confirm the exact route, roadhead and support before departure.
Can I fit Chitwan and Pokhara in eight days?+
Yes as a measured highlights route, especially with two-night bases. It becomes fragile when Lumbini, a major trek or several distant day trips are added.
Should I return to Kathmandu on day eight?+
Return only with a connection plan. Add a Kathmandu night when an international flight matters; the extra night is more valuable than another activity.
What if the short walk is rained out?+
Use Pokhara lake, museum, food or a lower-pressure neighbourhood day. A good itinerary has a meaningful non-walking alternative.
Is eight days better than seven?+
It is better when the extra day buys a short walk, two-night base or weather flexibility. If it only adds another transfer, keep the simpler seven-day route.
