What a quote should show

  • Chinese visa or visa-service cost where applicable.
  • Tibet Travel Permit and any route-specific permits.
  • Guide, driver, vehicle, fuel, road fees and border logistics.
  • Named hotels, room basis, meals and oxygen or support equipment.
  • Train or flight tickets, airport transfers, monument tickets and tips.
  • Insurance, cancellation terms and costs if weather changes the route.

Why remote routes cost more

Everest and Kailash require more driving, fuel, staff days, permits and contingency planning than a Lhasa stay. A low headline price often excludes the very items that make a remote itinerary workable.

Compare like with like

Request the same route, number of nights, room basis and inclusions from each provider. Check whether the final Paro-style buffer equivalent—a protected Lhasa or mainland China night—has been included before a flight.

Useful answers

Frequently asked questions

Is Tibet expensive?

Lhasa can be priced like a major Chinese destination, while Everest and Kailash become more expensive because of distance, permits and specialist support.

Should I pay a deposit before the permit is issued?

Use a clear written contract that explains the permit process, cancellation dates and what happens if authorities or weather prevent the route.
