Browse the full Nepal library →Manaslu is a regulated, high-altitude circuit. It normally requires a restricted-area permit, conservation-area documents, agency-issued TIMS and a licensed guide. A solo trek without the required support is not the normal legal planning option.
The permit set
- Restricted Area Permit for the applicable Manaslu section and dates.
- Manaslu Conservation Area Permit.
- Annapurna Conservation Area Permit when the route exits through the Annapurna side.
- Agency-issued TIMS and a licensed guide under the current provision.
- Local entry or checkpoint documents where required.
Solo does not mean independent
One traveller may join a permitted operational arrangement, but that is different from walking independently without a guide or agency. Ask the agency whether a minimum group size, special permit price or second trekker is required for your dates.
Acclimatisation and Larkya La
The route rises through long road-supported valleys to Samagaun and Samdo before crossing Larkya La. Build in acclimatisation, carry layers for wind and snow, and never treat a fixed crossing day as more important than symptoms or weather.
Useful answers
Frequently asked questions
Can I trek Manaslu alone?
A single traveller can ask an agency about joining a permitted arrangement, but independent trekking without a licensed guide and agency support is not the normal route option.
Is a porter-guide enough?
Confirm that the person holds the licence required for the route and that the agency will issue the correct permits and TIMS.
